The recent floods and landslides highlighted the need for safer, stronger and more resilient infrastructure in the frontier state, the Chief Minister said recently while paying tribute to those who lost their lives in the floods and landslides in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Nagaland. The Chief Minister also acknowledged local communities, district administrations, security forces, disaster response teams, healthcare workers and volunteers for their efforts during the crisis.

The physical devastation caused by the disasters will take years to rehabilitate, even though the Centre approved the advance release of ?44.55 crore under the State Disaster Response Fund, strengthening relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts.

The recent devastation is yet another reminder not only of the need for better disaster preparedness and management, but also of the importance of conducting proper studies before embarking on large-scale projects, as roads and rivers have remained a major cause of such disasters in the face of human interference.
