ZIRO, 18 Jul: Members of the Nagaland Tourism Association (NTA), who are on a familiarisation tour of Arunachal Pradesh, and members of the Ziro Tourism Organisation (ZTO) here in Lower Subansiri district have jointly advocated mandatory engagement of certified local tourist guides.
They emphasised that this policy would be a game-changer for the region.
The NTA delegation, which is on a familiarisation tour of Arunachal Pradesh, has already visited Namsai and Pasighat, focusing on exploring the regions’ vast tourism potential and fostering strong interstate cooperation.
During the meeting here with the ZTO on Saturday, the conversation centred on the invaluable role that local tourist guides play in shaping travel experience. Both organisations acknowledged that a guide is far more than just a navigator; they are the true ambassadors of a destination. They create the critical first impression for visitors, bringing the region’s rich history, diverse culture, and natural heritage to life. Professional and knowledgeable guides ensure that travellers don’t just sightsee but genuinely connect with and respect local communities, customs, and environments.
Recognising the need to elevate the quality of travel in the Northeast, ZTO chairman Hibu Tatu, alongside NTA chairman Vimeto Vakha and secretary AsebaKezo, advocated mandatory engagement of certified local tourist guides.
Beyond safeguarding cultural authenticity and ensuring visitor safety, making local guides mandatory directly supports the community by generating meaningful employment opportunities for local youths.
The interaction wrapped up with both organisations reaffirming their shared commitment to the future of tourism in the Northeast. Moving forward, the ZTO and the NTA pledged to work hand-in-hand to promote sustainable, community-based travel that protects the region’s cultural and natural heritage while ensuring long-term, responsible economic growth.
