PASIGHAT, 11 Aug: Arunachal Pradesh University's (APU) Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) here in East Siang district on Tuesday conducted an orientation programme for newly inducted guest faculty members and teaching assistants, themed 'Campus Professionalism and Classroom Management'.
Addressing the gathering, APU Vice-Chancellor (i/c) Dr Milorai Modi stressed the central role of the teaching-learning process and the importance of teachers in social development. He said teachers must inspire students and adapt to modern teaching-learning methods to remain effective in a changing academic environment.
Describing the university as an "incubation centre for innovation and research," he called on the workforce to drive the institution towards academic excellence.
Registrar Narmi Darang reviewed the university's achievements and shortcomings over its first three years of operation. He sought the cooperation of the newly joined faculty members in making the campus more vibrant, and advised them to continue their academic work for their own professional growth.
He informed that 54 new departments are planned to be added to the university over the next decade.
IQAC Director Prof PC Jena said that the orientation programme was designed to familiarise the newly inducted guest faculty members and teaching assistants with the university's academic culture, quality benchmarks, and expectations of professionalism in the classrooms.
He emphasised that sustained quality assurance depends on the commitment of every individual faculty member, and expressed hope that the programme would help the new inductees integrate smoothly into the university's teaching-learning framework.
Controller of Examinations Dr Monshi Tayeng shared insights from his 25-year academic journey - from serving as guest faculty at Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat, to his present position at the state's lone university. He urged the new faculty members to strengthen the teaching-learning process by building healthy relationships with students, senior faculty members, and the administration, and grounded his remarks in three key institutional documents: the prospectus, the APU Act, 2023, and the APU Ordinance, 2023.
Student Welfare Dean Dr Eli Doye spoke on the role of faculty members beyond the classroom, urging the new inductees to remain approachable and sensitive to the concerns of students outside academic hours as well. He said the overall well-being of students depend significantly on the guidance and support extended by faculty members, and called upon the new guest faculty members and teaching assistants to work in close coordination with the student welfare office in addressing students' needs.
The programme was attended by HoDs of various departments, teaching faculty members, and the newly inducted guest faculty members and teaching assistants.
