ITANAGAR, 11 Jun: The capital police on Thursday said that the allegations made against the police with regard to the arrest of Gumin Mize were baseless and fictitious.

“Over the past several days, multiple press statements, social media posts and public briefings have been circulated following the arrest of Gumin Mize in connection with Bihpuria PS Case No 72/2026, under Sections 329 (1), 329 (2), 117 (1), 117 (2), 109, 312, 324, 70 and 3 (5) BNS, read with Sections 27 (1) and 27 (2) of the Arms Act. The arrest was effected at the Itanagar police station on 20 May, 2026 in a lawful manner,” said a press release issued by the Itanagar SP.

The release further said that various allegations were thereafter made through social media platforms and public briefings. These included allegations that the officer-in-charge (OC) of the Itanagar police station had directed the Lakhimpur ASP to assault Mize while he was in the custody of the Assam Police; that the vehicle of the arrestee was transported from Itanagar to Bihpuria by a team of the Itanagar police station; and that Mize’s arms licence was concealed or withheld by the Itanagar police.

“Considering the seriousness of the allegations, a detailed enquiry was ordered by SP capital vide No SPC/ITA/PA-02/Grd/2025, dated 26 May.

“The enquiry covered examination of witnesses, scrutiny of digital evidence, including CCTV footage, and verification of other relevant technical and documentary material. On the basis of the enquiry, the allegations against the OC, Itanagar police station, the team of the Itanagar police station, and any other police officer of Arunachal Pradesh have been found to be baseless, incorrect and fictitious,” the release said.

The release further said that Mize was personally briefed by the capital SP on Wednesday about the enquiry and its findings. The relevant findings and supporting evidence were also shown to him, and he appeared satisfied with the outcome of the enquiry.

He was also urged not to take the law into his own hands, and to ensure that any action against drugs or other unlawful activities is undertaken strictly within the ambit of law.

Further, the social media monitoring team of the capital police has found that several posts and comments have been made on various Facebook and WhatsApp groups, wherein persons using fake accounts have issued serious threats to attack the Itanagar police station, attack the OC, burn down his house, attack his residence, and cause bodily injury to him and his family members.

“Certain comments also contain direct and indirect death threats,” the release said.

“Such threats under the cover of fake social media accounts are not only unlawful but also create a serious sense of insecurity and intimidation among police officers and their families. The family members of police officers, who have no role in official police action, cannot be made targets of threats, harassment or intimidation,” the release said.

The release further said that the fake accounts involved in issuing such threats have been identified and the actual users behind such accounts have been shortlisted and traced. “Necessary legal action is being initiated against them. The details of such legal action shall also be brought to light in due course,” the release said.

The police urged all members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, and to refrain from spreading unverified allegations, threats or inflammatory content on social media.

“Any wrongdoing, whether by police personnel or by members of the public, shall be dealt with strictly, in accordance with law,” the release said.
