We are all aware that the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST), one of the premier institutions of the Northeast, was established in Nirjuli, Arunachal Pradesh. Since its inception, the NERIST has been a beacon of quality education, producing skilled professionals and creating opportunities for thousands of students, particularly those from economically weaker sections of society. The institute has also made a significant contribution to the local economy by generating business opportunities, providing rental income to landowners, and enabling many educated unemployed youths to establish businesses in and around the Nirjuli area.

Today, it is understood that this prestigious institution is facing serious challenges due to the vested interests of a few individuals. Certain groups and organisations are allegedly attempting to tarnish the image and reputation of the NERIST, which could have far-reaching consequences for its future. If such developments continue, there is a possibility that the Ministry of Education may consider alternative arrangements or the relocation of certain academic or administrative activities. Such an outcome would be a major setback for Arunachal and its people.

I have had the privilege of being associated with the NERIST on two occasions as a member involved in its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives. During that period, I had the opportunity to interact with several education ministers from the Northeastern states, NERIST directors, in-charge directors, and chairpersons of the board of management. Through constructive discussions and negotiations, many issues concerning infrastructure development, academic progress, and student welfare were successfully resolved.

The NERIST is not merely an educational institution; it is a symbol of progress, opportunity, and pride for Arunachal and the entire Northeastern region. Its continued growth and excellence are in the collective interest of our people.

Therefore, this is the time for all Arunachalis, especially the people of Nirjuli, to stand united in safeguarding and strengthening the NERIST. Differences and misunderstandings should always be resolved through dialogue, mutual respect, and constructive engagement, rather than through actions that could damage the institution’s reputation and future.

Let us all unite to protect, preserve, and strengthen the NERIST for the benefit of present and future generations. Together, we can ensure that this premier institution continues to serve as a centre of excellence and a source of pride for Arunachal and the entire Northeast.
