PASIGHAT, 11 Jun: Reacting to the news headlined ‘Villagers lodge complaint with DC over sub-standard road and bridge work’, which was published in the 4 June issue of this daily, Pasighat PWD Division Executive Engineer Mano J Tayeng has said that the report was biased and misleading.

Tayeng rejected the allegation raised over the under-construction RCC bridge at Sika Tode, and said that “the content of the complaint does not carry factual and technical position of the road-cum-bridge project.”

The EE in a letter recently submitted to the East Siang DC noted that the road and bridge work from Rani Tiniali to Oyan Chariali via Sika Tode and Sika Bamin villages under Pasighat subdivision is being reconstructed and upgraded under the CMCSRDP (Phase-II) and it is not yet completed.

The engineer further clarified that widening and upgradation of the road is being carried out “as per specification and maintaining the approved engineering standards.”

He further stated that the girder of the RCC bridge has not collapsed, as mentioned in the report. “In fact, a hydraulic excavator was engaged to clear water flow below the bridge, which accidentally struck against the girder, resulting in its displacement,” he said.

However, the original structure of the girder is not damaged, he added.

On the allegation over the diversion route, the EE countered that the approved scope of work does not contain any provision for construction and maintenance of a temporary road. “However, the contractor constructed a temporary diversion arrangement for public convenience and uninterrupted road connectivity,” the EE said.
