PASIGHAT, 3 Jun: Residents of Sika Bamin, Sika Tode and Oyan villages have lodged a complaint with the East Siang DC over the alleged sub-standard work on the under-construction Sika-Tode Rami Korong bridge and road project at Sika-Bamin village.

In their complaint letter, the villagers stated that a portion of the bridge structure collapsed even before completion, raising questions over the quality of materials, structural safety, and adherence to approved engineering standards. They alleged that the condition of the project indicates possible negligence in execution and quality control.

The villagers claimed that the road widening work has not been carried out according to approved specifications. They also said that the contractors have allegedly blocked the existing road without providing any alternative diversion route, which has affected commuters, including school goers, emergency services, and daily transportation.

They also expressed concern over the absence of proper barricades, warning signs, and other essential safety measures at the construction site.

The complainants alleged that the actions of the contractors are contrary to the quality assurance and safety provisions prescribed under the CPWD Works Manual.

They said that repeated changes of contractors may have contributed to the poor execution and eventual collapse of the bridge structure.

Expressing disappointment over the delay and alleged substandard work, they sought an immediate intervention of the district administration and demanded that strict action be initiated against responsible officials and agencies.

The residents demanded that a competent engineering team conduct a technical inspection to examine structural safety, assess work quality, and thorough examine materials used, reinforcement, and design compliance.

They also demanded that the contractor provide a safe diversion road, install barricades and warning boards, and expedite completion of the project.

The villagers further demanded that accountability be fixed on the contractors and supervising officials concerned, if negligence or substandard construction is established.

The complainants stated that the collapse of the bridge structure before completion and prolonged delay in road construction indicate possible gross negligence and misuse of public resources.

No official response from the contractors or the concerned department was available at the time of filing this report.

The bridge construction is being executed by MM Enterprise and the road widening work by Koze Zango Enterprise under the supervision of the PWD, Pasighat Division.
