DAPORIJO, 16 Jul: Upper Subansiri Deputy Commissioner Tasso Gambo urged all administrative officers and heads of departments of the district to remain stationed within their respective jurisdictions during the monsoon season and maintain close coordination with field-level functionaries.
Addressing a review meeting on monsoon-related damages reporting here on Thursday, the DC directed all departments to immediately report incidents of landslides, floods, road blockages, infrastructure damage, and other emergencies to the district administration to enable swift response and coordinated action.
The deputy commissioner further emphasised that all damage assessments must be based on proper field verification and submitted in the prescribed format to eliminate discrepancies and ensure transparency and accountability in the reporting process. He called upon all departments to remain vigilant throughout the monsoon season, strengthen inter-departmental coordination, and work proactively to safeguard lives and public infrastructure.
The district disaster management officer (DDMO) briefed the participants on the existing funding provisions and guidelines for disaster response and relief. The DDMO also explained the standard norms and provisions governing the assessment and reporting of various categories of damages arising from monsoon-related incidents.
Heads of various line departments presented reports on damages sustained within their respective sectors. During the deliberations, discrepancies observed in damage reporting were discussed, with emphasis on ensuring uniformity, accuracy, and timely submission of verified reports to facilitate prompt relief measures and government assistance.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the departments to share the challenges encountered during the monsoon season. Several departments highlighted difficulties in accessing remote and affected areas for timely damage assessment and reporting, owing to disrupted road connectivity and adverse weather conditions. They also expressed concern over the limited availability of funds for undertaking immediate restoration of damaged infrastructure and essential public services, pending the receipt of disaster relief assistance.
The meeting was attended by administrative officers, heads of offices of various line departments, and other officials concerned.
The meeting concluded with a collective resolve to improve the district’s disaster reporting mechanism through timely, accurate, and coordinated reporting, thereby ensuring effective disaster response, immediate restoration wherever feasible, and prompt assistance to affected communities across Upper Subansiri district.
