RONO HILLS, 1 Jun: Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here has secured the 14th position nationally among central universities in the latest rankings released by the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF).
With this achievement, RGU has once again emerged as the highest-ranked central university in the Northeast region of India, the RGU said in a release.
Among other central universities in the region, the North Eastern Hill University, Shillong secured the 28th position, followed by Tezpur University at 30th and Mizoram University at 32nd.
A NAAC ‘A’ Grade accredited institution, RGU has recorded remarkable performance across various parameters assessed by IIRF.
The IIRF, a reputed non-governmental ranking agency, evaluates higher educational institutions on multiple indicators, including academic reputation, employer perception, teaching-learning resources, faculty-student ratio, financial resources, research and professional practice, publications and citations, patents and projects, graduation outcomes, placement records, entrepreneurship, and higher studies.
The IIRF ranking methodology also considers key parameters such as placement performance, teaching-learning resources and pedagogy, research and innovation, industry income and integration, placement strategies and support, future orientation, external perception, and international outlook.
RGU acting Vice-Chancellor Prof SK Nayak described the achievement as a testimony to the collective efforts of the university community in pursuing academic excellence. Prof Nayak said that the ranking is particularly significant, considering the geographical location of the university in a remote border state, where institutions often face unique developmental and infrastructural challenges.
Highlighting the university’s recent reforms, the VC said the RGU has made remarkable strides in digital transformation through the implementation of e-Office, which has streamlined administrative processes and promoted efficient, transparent, and paperless governance.
Prof Naik said the university has also undertaken a comprehensive strengthening of its ICT infrastructure by upgrading internet bandwidth, expanding campus-wide Wi-Fi coverage, modernising digital learning facilities, and improving online service delivery systems for students and stakeholders. These initiatives have not only enhanced operational efficiency but have also created a technologically enabled academic environment that supports teaching, learning, research, and governance in line with the vision of NEP 2020 and the broader goals of Digital India, he said.
RGU Registrar Dr NT Rikam termed the achievement a major milestone, and attributed it to the persistent efforts of ‘Team RGU’, reflecting the university’s commitment to fostering a vibrant teaching-learning environment and promoting high-quality, socially relevant research.
“The latest IIRF rankings underscore Rajiv Gandhi University’s growing stature as a premier institution of higher learning and research in India, reflecting its unwavering commitment to quality education, innovation, and academic excellence,” he said.
RGU Joint Registrar Dr David Pertin said that the university’s sustained commitment and patient efforts are now yielding tangible results.
“While the 14th national rank is a matter of pride, it also presents a significant opportunity for RGU to climb even higher in future rankings,” he said.
Dr Pertin said that RGU has successfully implemented several transformative provisions of the NEP 2020. It has completed the generation of academic bank of credits IDs for all learners and established the institute of undergraduate studies to facilitate the effective implementation of the four-year undergraduate programme, he said.
The university has implemented all 18 key mandates envisaged under NEP 2020 for higher educational institutions, Dr Pertin said.
“The successful operationalisation of student mobility and academic credit transfer across institutions within Arunachal Pradesh remains one of the university’s notable achievements and a rare accomplishment in the country,” he said.
These initiatives, he added, reaffirm RGU’s immense potential for continued academic growth and national prominence.
