DAPORIJO, 6 Sep: The Nyibu Nyvgam Yarku School in Yekar village in Upper Subansiri district is emerging as an initiative aimed at preserving the age-old traditions, cultural values and indigenous knowledge of the Tagin community while providing children with modern education.

The school was recently established under a project of the Donyi Polo Cultural and Charitable Trust, with the objective of creating an educational environment where traditional knowledge and contemporary schooling can go hand in hand. The school has started providing free boarding and education facilities to 25 students, with the strength expected to increase in the coming days.

The institution is managed by a school management committee comprising members associated with the Tagin Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society.

Academically, the school follows the CBSE pattern of education, with teachers recommended from Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalayas helping provide students with a structured modern curriculum.

However, the school's focus extends beyond conventional classroom education. Along with academic studies, students are introduced to traditional customs, indigenous practices, cultural values, and inherited knowledge passed down by their forefathers.

The initiative seeks to ensure that children receive modern education without losing their connection with their cultural roots. Through a combination of contemporary schooling and practical exposure to indigenous traditions, the institution aims at the overall development of students while contributing to the preservation and transmission of the community's cultural heritage for future generations.

The school is expected to serve as a model for integrating modern education with indigenous knowledge and cultural preservation, particularly at a time when traditional practices and oral knowledge face the challenge of being gradually lost among younger generations.
