TAWANG, 10 Aug: Re-verification of Scheduled Tribe (ST) certificates and issues concerning illegal immigrants and strengthening the enforcement of the inner line permit (ILP) system were discussed during a coordination meeting chaired by Tawang ADC Rinchin Leta here on Monday.
The meeting was attended by Kyidphel ZPM Tenzin Monpa, Tawang ZPM Sonam Nordzin, Lungla ADC Tashi Dhondup, Tawang DSP Togum Gonggo, Monpa Mimang Tsogpa vice president Pema Chowang, high-power committee (HPC) representative Tsering, GBs of Tawang circle, and representatives of student unions and youth leaders.
Addressing the participants, ADC Leta highlighted the importance of collective deliberation on the issues and opened the floor for suggestions and views from all stakeholders.
During the discussion, HPC representative Tsering highlighted the importance of re-verification of ST certificates and effective enforcement of the ILP provisions, with greater awareness and vigilance at the grassroots level.
He sought cooperation and support of the subdivisional administrations of Lungla and Jang for conducting similar coordination meetings involving gaon burahs, PRI members, youth leaders and other stakeholders in their respective jurisdictions.
The other stakeholders present shared their views and suggestions on safeguarding the interests of the indigenous community and strengthening measures for its long-term welfare.
The members emphasised the need for greater coordination among the administration, police, traditional village institutions, PRI representatives, community organisations, and youths for effective implementation of the re-verification process and stronger ILP enforcement throughout the district.
Various suggestions were put forward regarding verification mechanisms, grassroots-level awareness, monitoring, and enforcement. The deliberations underscored a shared commitment towards protecting the rights and interests of the indigenous people, preserving the identity of the Monpa community, and ensuring that statutory safeguards are implemented effectively across Tawang district.
The meeting concluded with a call for continued cooperation and coordinated action among all stakeholders to address the issues in a systematic, transparent and effective manner. (DIPRO)
