ITANAGAR, 24 May: The National People’s Party’s (NPP) state unit has strongly condemned the alleged custodial torture of Arunachal Anti-Drug Warriors president Gumin Mize by the Assam Police, and demanded his immediate release.

In a press release, former MLA and NPP national general secretary Paknga Bage said that the alleged arrest and brutal torture of Mize “is a disturbing incident that warrants strong condemnation.”

“Mize, known for his tireless efforts in combating drug trafficking in the state, has reportedly been taken into custody by the Assam Police in a suspected nexus with drug mafia,” Bage said, adding that reports indicate that

Mize has been subjected to severe torture and is currently hospitalised.

“I urge the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, particularly the Home Department, to intervene in this matter and take immediate action to secure Mize’s release,” Bage said.

He further requested NGOs, “especially women’s organisations in Arunachal and Assam,” to “raise this issue.”

“The human rights commission of Arunachal and human rights activists should take suo motu cognisance of this matter and work towards providing justice to Mize,” he said.
