ITANAGAR, 13 Jun: In what could be termed a blatant illegal appointment, the in-charge principal of the Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) in Nyapin in Kurung Kumey district allegedly appointed his cousin – an erstwhile junior teacher (JT) – as a trained graduate teacher (TGT) in an officiating capacity at GHSS Nyapin.
The appointment was made by in-charge Principal Pani Taba for his cousin Pani Karsang against JT Sumant Kumar Pathak on 31 December, 2025. The illegal appointment reportedly came to light recently.
Officials in the Education Department have confirmed the case and informed The Arunachal Times that appropriate action would be initiated against the in-charge principal soon.
The appointment not only flouted the state government’s recruitment rules but also violated the Education Department’s notification regarding TGT recruitment.
As per the notification issued by the then education secretary on 2 June, 2014, TGTs are to be recruited through the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission.
As per the TGT recruitment rules, even the director of school education is not competent to appoint anyone to the service.
The Education Department has so far terminated the jobs of more than 300 illegally appointed employees, including teachers. On 6 February, the department issued termination orders against 41 individuals over illegal recruitment.
