Governor K.T Parnaik expressed concern over the low rate of prosecution in POCSO cases in the state during a meeting held to discuss measures to strengthen prevention, investigation, prosecution, and victim support mechanisms.

Recently, while chairing a high-level review meeting on the progress of investigations, prosecutions, and measures taken by the state police for the protection of women and children, the Governor called for strengthening the Directorate of Prosecution to ensure the speedy delivery of justice.

Echoing the concerns of many citizens, the Governor expressed deep concern over the rising number of crimes against women and children, particularly those registered under the POCSO Act.

Ensuring the safety of children requires the active involvement of the community. It is a shared responsibility, and it is the duty of every individual and society as a whole to ensure that every child is safe, protected, and cared for.

A society that fails to protect its children has failed in one of its most fundamental responsibilities. While the police must continue to strengthen enforcement and investigation, institutions across the state-including schools, local communities, child protection agencies, and the judiciary-must also step up. Only through a coordinated and collective effort can children be guaranteed the safe and secure environment they deserve.
