ITANAGAR, 17 Jun: Governor K.T Parnaik called on the Union Minister for Home Affairs and Cooperation, Amit Shah, in New Delhi on 15 June where they held detailed discussions on issues relating to law and order, internal security, border area development, geospatial application, and the strengthening of the cooperative movement in Arunachal Pradesh.

The Governor shared his assessment of the prevailing law and order situation in the state and briefed the Union Minister on recent developments concerning security and border management. He highlighted the strategic importance of the Tirap, Changlang, and Longding (TCL) region and discussed ongoing efforts to enhance security infrastructure, including border fencing and surveillance measures.

The Governor also drew attention to the growing menace of drug trafficking and substance abuse, fuelled by narcotics originating from across international borders and transiting through neighbouring states. He emphasized the adverse impact of drug abuse on youth, social harmony, and the overall development of the state, and underscored the need for sustained and coordinated action by all stakeholders.

The Governor emphasized the urgent need to skill youth in geospatial applications, which will enhance governance, create opportunities to survey, analyze, and monitor land-related issues, as well as provide solutions to check drug circulation, enable disaster management, and monitor infrastructure projects.

On the cooperation front, the Governor apprised the Union Minister of various initiatives being undertaken to strengthen the cooperative movement in Arunachal Pradesh. He highlighted efforts to promote cooperative societies as instruments of inclusive growth, livelihood generation, and rural prosperity.

Stressing the immense potential of cooperatives in empowering farmers, women, Self-Help Groups, and rural entrepreneurs, the Governor noted that a vibrant cooperative ecosystem can play a transformative role in enhancing incomes, creating employment opportunities, and fostering self-reliant village economies across the state.
