NEW DELHI, 1 Oct: The Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC) staged a protest outside the Chinese Embassy in New Delhi on Thursday, opposing China's claims of sovereignty and political control over Tibet, East Turkistan, Southern Mongolia and Manchuria.

The protest was organised to the occasion of 77th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The TYC rejected Beijing's claim over Tibet and described the incorporation of Tibet and other territories as an assault on freedom.

"Tibet is never part of China and will never be," the organisation said, alleging that China's policies in Tibet, East Turkistan, Southern Mongolia and Manchuria reflected what it described as an "imperialist intent."

The TYC said Chinese laws and policies could not erase Tibet's distinct history and identity or the Tibetan people's aspiration to decide their own political future.

It also criticised China's policies in Tibet, arguing that administrative and legal measures could not resolve what it described as the longstanding dispute over the region's political status.

The protest comes against the backdrop of continuing differences between the Chinese government and Tibetan representatives over Tibet's history, status and political future. Beijing maintains that Tibet is an integral part of China, while the Tibetan Youth Congress advocates independence for Tibet.
