ITANAGAR, 28 Jun: The All Keyi Panyor District Students’ Union (AKPDSU) on Sunday held a press conference to brief the public on the NEEPCO-Possa incident, the steps taken by the union so far, and its future course of action.

The union also used the occasion to thank everyone who has come forward to help the flood-affected families in Keyi Panyor district.

Addressing a press conference at the Arunachal Press Club here, AKPDSU president Taba Doni expressed gratitude to the people of Arunachal Pradesh, political parties, religious leaders, community-based organisations, student unions, NGOs, the district administration, elected representatives, and volunteers for standing with the people of Keyi Panyor after the devastating floods of 24 June.

Doni said the union has been working closely with the district administration since the first day of the disaster and will continue to support relief and rehabilitation efforts until normal life returns.

He also appealed to the public to follow the travel advisories issued by the district administration and avoid unnecessary travel, as it could hamper rescue operations, cause traffic congestion, and put lives at risk.

On the NEEPCO-Possa incident, Doni said the union convened the press conference to inform the public about the actions it has already taken and the steps it plans to take in the coming days. He said the union remains committed to ensuring that the concerns of the affected people are properly addressed, and that “justice is pursued through appropriate means.”

He also warned people to be cautious of fake donation campaigns. Referring to reports of fraudulent QR codes being circulated instead of the official relief fund announced by the local MLA, Doni termed the act highly irresponsible and assured that strict action would be taken against those involved. He urged the public to verify donation details before making any contributions.

To assist those affected by the floods, Doni announced that the union would soon release two 24×7 helpline numbers through its official Facebook page. The helplines will provide assistance to stranded residents, teachers, government employees, and other travellers in need of guidance or emergency support.

He further informed that the union would organise a donation drive at 14 market, Yazali market, Deem-II, Potin market, and Yachuli market, and appealed to the public to contribute either in cash or in kind. He assured that every donation would directly reach the affected families.

Besides distributing relief materials, the union will also mobilise volunteers to help families clean their homes and begin rebuilding after the floods.

Doni appealed to the people of Arunachal Pradesh to continue extending their support and solidarity to the people of Keyi Panyor district. He said the road to recovery will take time, but with collective efforts and public cooperation, the affected families can rebuild their lives and recover from the tragedy.
