ITANAGAR, 15 May: Governor KT Parnaik on Friday said development parameters meant for plains and other states should not be applied uniformly to hill states like Arunachal Pradesh, citing the state’s difficult terrain, sparse population, strategic importance, and rich cultural diversity.
The governor made the remarks during a meeting with NITI Aayog member from the state, Dr Joram Aniya, at the Lok Bhavan here, according to an official statement.
Highlighting Arunachal’s immense potential in hydropower, tourism, environmental conservation, and cultural heritage, Parnaik said the state deserves special focus and priority in national planning and development initiatives.
He also congratulated Dr Aniya on her appointment to NITI Aayog, the apex public policy think tank of the Centre, and expressed confidence that she would contribute significantly towards the economic development of both the country and the state through inclusive and people-centric policymaking.
The governor emphasised that Arunachal faces unique developmental challenges owing to its geographical conditions and demographic characteristics, which require tailored policy approaches and greater national support. (PTI)
