KHONSA, 27 Jun: The Nocte Script Development Committee (NSDC), in collaboration with the Centre for Endangered Languages (CFEL), Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies (AITS), Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), organised a workshop on the development of the Nocte script at the deputy commissioner’s conference hall here in Tirap district on Saturday.

RGU linguist and resource person Dr Wanglit Mongchan guided deliberations on the adaptation of the Roman script for the Nocte language.

A drafting committee, comprising Gankhu Sumnyan, Noklam Bisai and Wangtum Homcha Lowang, was constituted to compile and document the deliberations and recommendations during the workshop.

Stakeholders from various Nocte villages, teachers from colleges and schools, scholars, and local leaders actively participated in the discussions. They empha-sised the importance of having a common Nocte script for cultural preservation and educational advancement.

It is the first step in a series of workshops planned for the future, aimed at further strengthening the foundation of the Nocte script and ensuring its wider acceptance across dialectal groups.

The workshop was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Techu Aran and attended by, among others, ZPC John KK Matey, ZPMs Najen Rangwang and Wanglem Thingnok, DoTCL DD Wangton Lowang, and other panchayat members from the community. (DIPRO)
