Editor,
As a citizen of Arunachal Pradesh, I am frustrated – not because I expect special treatment, but because I expect the basic public services that every taxpayer deserves.
Our state needs a citizens’ movement that rises above political parties and ideologies, whether left or right. Its sole purpose should be to ensure that every citizen receives the basic public services they are entitled to, and that those in power fulfil their responsibilities.
Too often, people struggle with poor road conditions, while flyover and other infrastructure projects face prolonged delays and slow progress. They also endure irregular electricity supply, where outdated systems are frequently given temporary repairs instead of being properly upgraded; inadequate water supply; and a shortage of teachers in schools. Healthcare remains another major concern, with patients waiting days for tests and reports. Many government health centres continue to face shortage of doctors, medicines, diagnostic facilities, and basic infrastructure, forcing patients to travel long distances for treatment. These are not luxuries – they are essential public services and the government’s fundamental responsibilities.
Citizens are not asking for freebies or special favours. We pay our taxes, and in return, we deserve reliable roads, electricity, water, quality education, healthcare, and other essential public services.
This is not about supporting or opposing any political party. It is about ensuring that those entrusted with public office fulfil their responsibilities. Citizens should not have to repeatedly demand services that are already their rightful entitlement.
I hope the people of Arunachal Pradesh unite – not for political gain or personal interests, but for the common good. Let us peacefully and lawfully raise our voices and hold those in power accountable for delivering the services they were entrusted to provide.
Peacefully demanding our basic rights is not an act of politics; it is an act of responsible citizenship.
A frustrated citizen,
Naharlagun
