ITANAGAR, 4 Oct: The Arunachal Anti-Corruption Sena-Pakke-Kessang District Unit (AACS-PKDU) sought the intervention of the state Chief Secretary in the ongoing FM&BAP flood protection work near the general ground, upstream of the Decorai Irrigation Project, Seijosa.

In a representation to the CS submitted on Thursday, the AACS-PKDU requested him to ensure that the project is implemented strictly in accordance with the sanctioned design, technical specifications, approved estimates, contractual conditions, quality-control requirements and applicable financial and administrative rules. It demanded an independent third-party technical inspection and monitoring by competent and technically reputed institutions/agencies, including NERIST, NIT, CWC, Brahmaputra Board or other appropriate technical bodies, "as considered necessary by the competent authority."

AACS-PKDU also asked the CS to consider the revival/reconstitution of the proposed Arunachal Pradesh-Assam Interstate Coordination Committee, in consultation with the competent authorities and stakeholders of both states.

It further said that the authorities concerned should furnish an appropriate action-taken report on the resolutions adopted at the mass consultative meeting held on 29 September at the Pakke-Paga Multipurpose Hall, Seijosa, in Pakke-Kessang district regarding the ongoing Flood Management & Border Area Programme (FM&BAP) Flood Protection Work. The organisation also submitted copies of the resolutions and minutes of the mass consultative meeting to the CS.

The organisation said the project is intended primarily to provide flood protection and safeguard human lives, public property and surrounding infrastructure. "Such a project therefore carries a direct and significant public-safety responsibility."
