RONO HILLS, 2 Jun: A six-day AIFF D certificate coaching course, organised by the department of physical education of Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU), in association with the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA), under the aegis of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), concluded here on Tuesday.
A total of 24 aspiring coaches from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam participated in the course, which aimed to enhance grassroots football coaching knowledge and practical competencies.
The programme was conducted by AIFF certified coach educator and RGU Physical Education Assistant Professor Sangey Tsering, with support from course coordinator Dawa Tsering and Tasi Leya, providing physiotherapy support.
The course combined classroom instruction with extensive practical sessions, covering coaching methodology, player development, session planning, football teaching principles, and grassroots football development. “More than 85 young football trainees from various academies across the state participated in practical coaching sessions, providing valuable hands-on experience for the trainee coaches,” according to a release.
A major highlight of the programme was the ‘grassroots football festival’, which enabled the participants to gain practical experience in organising football activities for young players in a fun and development-focused environment.
RGU Vice Chancellor (i/c) Prof Jayadeba Sahoo, Registrar Dr NT Rikam, Physical Education Faculty Dean Prof Sambhu Prasad, Physical Education Department Head Dr Tadang Minu, representatives of the APFA, and faculty members, among others, were present at the valedictory function.
Addressing the gathering, the dignitaries emphasised the importance of coach education in strengthening grassroots football and nurturing future sporting talent. They congratulated the participants on successfully completing the course, and encouraged them to contribute actively to football development in their respective communities.
