DAPORIJO, 3 Sep: An action committee team of the Tamin Welfare Society (TWS) on Thursday met the families severely affected by the devastating fire mishap that had occurred at Gandhi Market here in Upper Subansiri district on 30 August.
The TWS in a release said that the team visited the affected families belonging to the Tamin clan and assessed the situation arising from the fire incident. It said five families - Yapi Dasi Tamin, Pucha Dasi Tamin, Vijay Dasi Tamin, Pugo Dasi Tamin and Dari Raji Tamin - have suffered badly and lost valuable properties worth around Rs 1 crore.
The TWS provided relief assistance in cash to the affected families as "urgent support," it said.
The team also expressed solidarity with the victims and urged them to remain courageous, united and resilient in overcoming the enormous hardships caused by the tragedy.
The TWS also appealed to the authorities concerned to extend all possible immediate assistance and compensation, and to take up immediate steps for the rehabilitation of the fire-affected families in accordance with government norms.
The TWS made a strong appeal to the people of Daporijo town to remain extremely vigilant against recurring incidents of fire in the township. "The increasing number of fire incidents demands collective responsibility, preventive action and greater public awareness," it said.
Stating that the TWS stands firmly with the fire-affected families, it appealed to the entire community to extend support, "so that the victims can rebuild their lives with dignity and hope."
