Editor,

I wish to express deep concern over the unfortunate injury sustained by Sub-Inspector Tamo Bakhang during the recent bandh-related violence in Itanagar.

It is heartbreaking that an officer who was once celebrated across Arunachal Pradesh for his courage during the Hollongi gunfight against notorious drug kingpin Rohit Basumatory is today battling a severe eye injury which he sustained while merely performing his duty to maintain law and order. Reports suggest that he may suffer partial or even permanent loss of eyesight. Such news is painful and deeply disturbing for every responsible citizen of the state.

Police personnel are not our enemies. They are sons and daughters of our own soil, standing in difficult situations to protect public safety, prevent chaos, and uphold peace. Whether during protests, bandhs, disasters, or criminal incidents, they remain on the frontline, often risking their lives while the rest of us remain safe.

Democracy gives every citizen the right to protest and raise voices against issues affecting society. However, violence against duty-bound officers can never be justified. Damaging public property, attacking security personnel, or spreading hatred only weakens our collective cause and pushes society towards instability.

Sub-Inspector Tamo Bakhang’s injury is not just an injury to one officer; it is a painful reminder that anger and unrest should never blind us to humanity. Today it is a police officer suffering; tomorrow it could be any innocent citizen caught in violence.

At this critical moment, I sincerely appeal to the state government to provide him with the best possible medical treatment and long-term support. An officer who displayed exemplary bravery in service of the state deserves not only recognition but also dignity, security, and care during his difficult time. The government should seriously consider elevating his post or honouring him appropriately for his sacrifice and dedication towards public service.

I also humbly appeal to the public, especially the youths, to choose peaceful and constructive means of protest. Let us disagree without hatred, protest without violence, and remember that our police force consists of our own brothers and sisters serving under difficult circumstances.

Arunachal has always been known for its unity and humanity. Let us preserve that spirit by standing together for peace, justice, and mutual respect.

Bage Kamsi,
Itanagar
