ITANAGAR, 2 Jun: A paralegal volunteer (PLV) induction training programme was organised at the district jail in Jully near here on Tuesday by the Arunachal Pradesh State Legal Services Authority (APSLSA), under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).

Over 100 participants were given induction training during the programme under the Convict Paralegal Volunteer (CPLV) Scheme – an initiative of the NALSA, aimed at extending legal aid services within prison establishments. The participants were apprised of the role of CPLVs in identifying inmates requiring legal assistance, disseminating legal awareness, facilitating communication between prisoners and legal aid authorities, and assisting in effective implementation of welfare and rehabilitation measures.

The scheme serves as an important mechanism for ensuring access to justice for incarcerated persons and safeguarding their legal and constitutional rights, the APSLSA stated in a release.

Four documentaries produced by the APSLSA, highlighting various legal awareness initiatives and public welfare activities, were also screened for the participants.

APSLSA Member Secretary Tadu Tamag highlighted the importance of the APSLSA documentaries, which included drug abuse, POCSO Act, domestic violence, elderly rights, entitlement to free legal services for the weaker sections of the society, policy programme and various NALSA mandated schemes.

The induction featured insightful sessions by resource persons, including advocate Techi Nech and legal aid counsel and advocate Amit Saring.

DSP CT Lombi also attended the inaugural programme.
