TAWANG, 19 Jul: In a vibrant celebration of the rich cultural heritage and resilient spirit of the Brokpa community, the Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps organised a grand Yak Mela on Sunday in Groleteng, situated at an altitude of nearly 15,000 feet, near the Taktsang gonpa, in Tawang district.
The event was attended by 5 Mountain Division General Officer Commanding (GOC) Maj Gen Amit Nautiyal, along with Tawang Additional Deputy Commissioner Rinchin Leta, Tawang Brigade Commander Brig Bhupal Singh, senior officers from the Army and civil administration, representatives of paramilitary forces, GBs, and members of the Brokpa community.
Addressing the gathering, Maj Gen Nautiyal expressed immense happiness at witnessing the enthusiasm, resilience, and indomitable spirit of the Brokpa people living in the remote border areas. He lauded their unwavering courage and invaluable support to the security forces despite the challenging terrain and harsh climatic conditions.
The GOC reiterated that the Indian Army remains firmly committed not only to safeguarding the nation’s frontiers but also to the socioeconomic development and welfare of the people residing in these strategically important border regions. He assured the community of the Army’s continued cooperation in improving livelihoods and creating better opportunities for future generations.
Extending his best wishes for the prosperity and well-being of the Brokpa community, he appealed to them to continue extending their wholehearted support to all security agencies working in the region.
Encouraging the youths to pursue careers in the Indian Army and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), he also motivated students to aspire for admission into Sainik Schools, assuring that the Indian Army would provide the necessary guidance and training to deserving candidates.
As part of the programme, the GOC distributed blankets to members of the Brokpa community and felicitated participants, students, and local achievers for their enthusiastic participation in the Yak Mela.
The Yak Mela showcased the unique traditions, customs, and pastoral way of life of the Brokpa community, while reinforcing the enduring bond between the Indian Army and the people of the border villages.
