PANGIN, 2 Jun: A public awareness and community engagement programme focusing on avocado farming, horticulture techniques, and the Siang Upper Multipurpose Project (SUMP) was conducted in Pangin village in Siang district.

The targeted outreach initiative aimed to promote scientific horticulture practices while strengthening community understanding regarding the developmental significance of the SUMP in the region.

The grassroots awareness drive, which commenced in Pangin on 27 May, focused on encouraging sustainable agricultural practices and enhancing awareness regarding the long-term developmental benefits associated with the SUMP.

The programme witnessed active participation of villagers and households, who attended the sessions and engaged in discussions related to farming opportunities, infrastructure development, regional progress, and community welfare.

During the session, Horticulture Development Officer Leniya Pertin shared insights on advanced avocado cultivation methods, scientific horticulture practices, and sustainable farming techniques aimed at improving agricultural productivity and livelihood opportunities for local farmers.

She emphasised the importance of adopting modern agricultural methods to strengthen long-term rural development and economic sustainability.

The organising team also facilitated open interaction sessions that allowed community members to directly raise queries and share local perspectives regarding horticulture development and the SUMP.

Following the interactive sessions, ‘SUMP information booklets’ were distributed among the villagers to promote transparent communication and strengthen public understanding of the initiative.
