TAWANG, 16 Jun: In a step towards empowering young girls through education and skill development, an awareness programme on the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) was organised by the District Industries Centre (DIC) at the Government Town Secondary School (GTSS) here on Tuesday under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao initiative.
Addressing the students, Tawang Deputy Commissioner Namgyal Angmo encouraged young girls to actively explore and utilise government-sponsored skill development opportunities. She emphasised that acquiring new skills not only enhances employability but also builds self-confidence, self-reliance, and financial independence.
“Skill development equips young minds with the tools needed to navigate the future with confidence and dignity,” she said, urging the students to prepare themselves for emerging opportunities.
The event also featured an inspiring address by Tawang DDI Tsering Drema, who encouraged the students to enroll in skill development programmes available under the PMKVY. She highlighted the wide range of training options offered under the scheme, enabling youths to pursue careers aligned with their interests and aspirations.
During the programme, economic investigator Sange Norbu provided detailed information on various schemes being implemented by the DIC, including the PMKVY and the PMEGP. He explained the benefits, eligibility criteria, and procedures for availing these schemes.
GTSS Headmistress Tsering Yangzom urged the students to embrace skill development as a pathway to a brighter and more secure future. “When girls are educated and skilled, communities prosper,” she said, highlighting the transformative role of education and vocational training in nation-building.
The programme concluded with an open discussion, during which students raised questions and sought clarifications about various skill development and entrepreneurship schemes. The session helped dispel doubts and inspired many students to consider skill-based learning as a stepping stone towards personal and professional growth. (DIPRO)
