ITANAGAR, 21 May: 108 ambulance employees delivered two healthy babies in two different instances on Thursday.

The first incident occurred at around 5:37 am, when a pregnant woman was referred from the Tirap district hospital in Khonsa to AMC, Dibrugarh (Assam). Her condition was critical, with complications of postdated pregnancy with distress and obstructed labour. During transit, she went into severe labour pain. EMT Nyahong Bangsia and pilot Longthong Kakho immediately rose to the occasion.

Demonstrating exceptional skill and calm under pressure, they conducted the delivery inside the ambulance in between Deomali and Margherita with precision and care, and a healthy baby boy was delivered. Both mother and baby were later shifted to the Margherita hospital for further postnatal care.

In a similar incident, at around 7:30 am, a pregnant woman was referred from the East Kameng district hospital in Seppa to the TRIHMS, Naharlagun. The mother began to experience intense labour pain en route. EMT Yalik Kamchi and pilot Ashok Bagang successfully assisted in the delivery of a baby boy inside the ambulance.

The mother and the baby were later admitted to the TRIHMS, and are reported to be in good health.
