RUKSIN, 11 Jun: In a major boost to healthcare services in the region, Tasi Panggeng Community Health Centre (FRU) here in East Siang district has resumed cataract surgery services after a gap of 10 years.
The revival of this essential ophthalmic service marks a significant step towards strengthening specialised healthcare at the grassroots level and improving access to quality eye care for the local population.
Cataract surgeries were successfully performed by MS (Ophthalmology) Dr T Kaye, whose expertise and dedication have played a key role in restoring this vital service. On 9 June, the medical team at Ruksin CHC conducted five cataract surgeries and one pterygium surgery, bringing renewed hope and improved vision to patients affected by avoidable visual impairment.
The restoration of cataract surgery services will greatly benefit elderly and visually impaired individuals from Ruksin and surrounding areas, many of whom previously had to travel long distances to access surgical eye care.
By making these services available closer to home, the initiative is expected to reduce the burden of preventable blindness and contribute to better community eye health.
Speaking on the occasion, Medical Officer Dr K Jonnom stated that the successful resumption of cataract surgery services stands as a testament to the ongoing efforts to strengthen healthcare infrastructure and deliver essential medical services to every corner of the region.
He added that the initiative reaffirms the department’s commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of the community through accessible and quality healthcare services.
