PASIGHAT, 24 Jun: The Students of College of Horticulture and Forestry (CHF) here in East Siang district on Wednesday staged protest opposing the posting of prof. Pranab Dutta to the college.

The students alleged that prof. Dutta was involved in ‘immoral activities,’ while he was serving at Post Graduate Studies in Agricultural Sciences in Shillong prior to his transfer.

Shouting slogans against prof. Dutta, they urged the Central Agriculture University, Imphal to revoke his transfer order. They lamented that the university authorities have not clarified their stand on the sensitive issue, despite receiving their representation. The protesting students said they would not allow prof. Dutta to join CHF.

The female students of the CHF had submitted a representation to the Dean of the CHF on 11 May this year, urging him to disapprove the joining of prof. Dutta, stating that his posting may create an unfavourable atmosphere in the college.

The Adi Students’ Union has also opposed the joining of prof. Dutta to the college and urged the CAU authority to revoke his transfer order.
