Following the Arunachal Pradesh government's issuance of a notification prescribing fresh eligibility criteria for government jobs, the Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) has resumed its recruitment process. The APPSC has advertised several Group A and B technical posts.

Under the new eligibility criteria, candidates are required to possess a valid permanent residence certificate (PRC) of Arunachal Pradesh, an Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe (APST) certificate, and the ability to speak at least one indigenous tribal language of the state. The recruitment process had been temporarily halted while awaiting the government notification.

The Arunachal Pradesh Public Service Combined Competitive Examination (APPSCCE) notification is also expected to be issued shortly. The APPSC has sought clarification from the department concerned on certain points before issuing the APPSCCE advertisement.

Meanwhile, a government agency has been tasked with developing a normalisation methodology for optional subjects. This methodology will be applied to the APPSCCE Mains Examination and other examinations involving multiple optional subjects.

The APPSC has also introduced several measures aimed at improving transparency in the examination process. These include coding candidates during the viva voce, so that panellists cannot identify them by name, as well as mandatory video recording of the handling of sensitive examination materials and related processes.

These steps are important to assure candidates that the examination process is secure and transparent, particularly as the commission has faced serious issues in the past that have undermined public trust.

Having learned from its past mistakes, the commission should put all necessary measures in place to ensure that examinations are conducted fairly and without any possibility of paper leaks.
