Vice President CP Radhakrishnan is visiting Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh. His visit includes academic, cultural, and public engagements across the four Northeastern states.
On 9 September, he will attend a special session of the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly and visit its gallery-cum-museum. He will also visit the Nyedar Namlo, the Jawaharlal Nehru State Museum, and the Donyi Polo Mission School for the Hearing and Visually Impaired.
The usual patch-up and clean-up of the town is underway, as happens before a VIP visit. The arterial roads within Itanagar remain dangerous. The stretch of highway connecting it to its twin city, Naharlagun, is unsafe in several sections, with many areas prone to landslides and water seepage due to poor construction.
These are the roads that the VIP and his entourage will likely avoid, but they are also a reflection of the state of affairs that needs attention. Curated visits will ensure that everything is presented to look good, while the cracks will be wide open as soon as the visit is wrapped up.
