AALO, 23 Jun: West Siang Deputy Commissioner Mindo Loyi stressed the need for effective road safety measures in the district.
Chairing a Road Safety Committee meeting here on Tuesday, the DC directed the departments concerned to construct speed breakers at required locations, mark designated parking areas, and conduct regular traffic awareness programmes through the district transport office and other departments concerned.
He assured that the Health Department would extend logistic support during road safety initiatives. He also instructed the traffic police to take action against modified motorcycles causing excessive noise, and directed the removal of sand, gravel, and construction materials from highways and colony roads of Aalo town to ensure smooth traffic movement and public safety.
Highway Department Executive Engineer GemarPadu highlighted the importance of road safety measures, traffic management, and collective responsibility in preventing road accidents.
During the meeting, SP Kardak Riba expressed concern over frequent fatal accidents occurring along the Kabu-Kamba road, and informed that the stretch has been identified as a “black spot” due to repeated accident cases.
He urged commuters and drivers using the route to remain cautious and follow road safety guidelines. He further informed that the district police are taking strict action against traffic violators, and emphasised the need for installation of traffic signals and road safety symbols at necessary locations in Aalo town.
The SP also highlighted the PM Rahat scheme, a government initiative aimed at providing immediate financial assistance to road accident victims.
Urban Development Executive Engineer Halley Welly informed the committee that the parking area at the daily market would soon be opened for public use. He further stated that two additional parking facilities would be developed at the deputy commissioner’s office complex and the general hospital here to help address parking issues.
The meeting was attended by officials from the Border Roads Organisation, traffic police, district transport office, district medical office, Forest Department, PWD, Urban Development Department, and other departments concerned. (DIPRO)
