TAWANG, 19 Aug: The electoral roll observer (ERO) for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Tawang district, Yeshi Wangmu Ringu, reiterated that the SIR process must be carried out carefully and strictly in accordance with the prescribed guidelines to ensure a clean, accurate, inclusive and error-free electoral roll.
Reviewing the ongoing SIR process in the district on Wednesday, Ringu, who is the finance commissioner of the state government, emphasised strict adherence to the prescribed procedures.
The ERO directed election officials to properly preserve all documents and records connected with the revision process and to follow the instructions issued by the Election Commission of India in letter and spirit.
Addressing the officials, the ERO instructed the concerned officers to fix hearings immediately upon receipt of claims and objections so that applicants and aggrieved persons are informed in time and get adequate opportunity to prepare and produce the required documents during the hearing.
She also stressed the importance of factual and accurate reporting at every stage of the SIR and asked officials to maintain transparency, proper documentation and due diligence throughout the exercise.
Commending the booth level officers (BLOs) for their continued support, cooperation and dedicated efforts in carrying out the intensive revision exercise at the grassroots level, she directed them to ensure that all pending forms, if any, are uploaded without delay.
During the meeting, the ERO was apprised of the status of the revision exercise, including details of claims and objections received so far in all three assembly constituencies of Tawang district.
During the open discussion, representatives of various political parties shared their observations and views on the ongoing SIR process.
Tawang MLA Namgey Tsering suggested that minor or negligible discrepancies in names and other particulars appearing in the electoral roll may, wherever permissible under the prescribed rules and provisions, be considered by the concerned EROs/AEROs after due satisfaction and verification.
Lungla MLA Tsering Lhamu, ZPC Leki Gombu, ZPMs Sonam Nordzin, Tenzin Monpa and Pema Tsering, besides representatives of the BJP, PPA and AAP, electoral registration officers (EROs), assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs), booth level officers (BLOs) and other officials associated with the revision exercise attended the meeting.
