SEPPA, 19 Aug: Electoral Roll Observer Y.W Ringu urged political parties and public representatives to actively disseminate authentic information on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process among the public and encourage eligible citizens to participate in the revision exercise.
She said that the essence of SIR is to ensure the integrity and accuracy of the electoral roll through a transparent and systematic process.
"SIR is not merely an exercise for removal of ineligible entries, but equally an opportunity to ensure the inclusion of all eligible electors whose names are not reflected in the electoral roll," Ringu said during a review meeting on SIR on Wednesday. She called upon all stakeholders to extend their cooperation to the district administration in making the exercise genuinely inclusive and credible.
Ringu also underscored the important role of EROs, AEROs, election officials and BLOs in ensuring that claims and objections are processed diligently and impartially, with due opportunity provided to electors to submit the prescribed documents and establish their claims in accordance with the guidelines of the Election Commission of India.
She stressed the need for effective field verification, timely notice delivery and prompt disposal of pending cases.
DC-cum-district election officer Yashaswini B briefed the participants on the objectives and significance of SIR 2026 and emphasised the need to ensure an accurate, updated, inclusive and credible electoral roll.
She informed that the hearing process is to be completed by 18 September 2026 and called upon all officers and field functionaries to work in a coordinated and time-bound manner to achieve the stipulated targets.
A detailed interaction was subsequently held among public representatives, political party representatives, election officials and field functionaries on Assembly Constituency-wise hearing progress, digitization of electoral forms, pending cases, verification procedures and field-level challenges. Participants shared their observations and suggestions for strengthening coordination and expediting the remaining activities.
The meeting was attended by MLA Ealing Tallang, ZPC Pai Pizi Yangfo, EROs, AEROs, ZPMs, representatives of political parties, election officials, BLOs and other stakeholders.
Earlier, AC-cum-deputy district election officer Laxmi Dodum made a detailed presentation on the Phase-III status of SIR-2026.
Key field-level challenges, including non-availability of requisite documents, data and credential mismatches, notice delivery and field logistics, and the need for expeditious disposal of pending hearings, were also highlighted for focused intervention. (DIPRO)
