SEPPA, 13 Jun: Five people from Assam lost their lives when the Bolero pickup truck they were travelling in plunged into a gorge along NH 13 (Itanagar-Seppa road), near Tatatara village under the Seppa administrative circle of East Kameng district on Friday.

Police sources in Seppa informed that an anonymous telephone call was received at around 8:15 on Saturday morning, informing about the accident. Police personnel immediately rushed to the spot for verification.

After preliminary investigation, it emerged that the victims had attended the Friday market in Rilloh in Pakke-Kessang district on the previous day and had been returning to Seppa when the tragedy occurred.

The vehicle had reportedly left Rilloh at around 5 pm on 12 June, and the accident is believed to have taken place between 7 pm and 8 pm.

On reaching the spot, the police found four persons dead, while the fifth occupant was critically injured. He was immediately shifted to the district hospital in Seppa for treatment but succumbed to his injuries later.

 The deceased have been identified as Md Bulbul Hussain, Abdul Hussain (21), Nur Hussain (40), Amjat Ali (41), and Saidul Ali. All were residents of Bhoruluwa, North Lakhimpur, Assam.

Further investigation into the exact cause of the accident is underway. Police have not yet disclosed any details regarding possible factors such as speeding, mechanical failure, or road condition.
