ITANAGAR, 1 Jul: Governor K.T Parnaik sought continued support from the central government for relief, rehabilitation, and restoration of essential infrastructure and livelihoods in the wake of extensive damage caused by recent floods across several districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
The governor, during his meeting with union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Lok Bhavan on Wednesday, discussed recent flood damages and measures to strengthen irrigation, connectivity, rural infrastructure, and to promote organic farming and high-value crops.
Highlighting the state’s immense agricultural potential, the governor said Arunachal Pradesh could emerge as a major hub of sustainable and high-value agriculture with focused support from the central government.
He said that strengthening infrastructure, promoting organic farming, introducing modern technology, and improving market connectivity would boost the rural economy and contribute to the vision of Atma Nirbhar Arunachal, Viksit Arunachal and Viksit Bharat.
The governor also highlighted the state’s natural advantage in organic farming and sought support for certified organic clusters, subsidies for natural farming, promotion of high-value horticulture crops, and branding of ‘Organic Arunachal’ products at national and global levels.
He also sought assistance for research centres, farmer training, and climate-resilient agricultural practices through institutions like ICAR and NABARD.
The governor further stressed the importance of modern technology, skill development, agri-startups, and stronger market linkages to empower farmers and create employment opportunities for the youth. He said that promoting food processing and agro-based industries would strengthen the rural economy and reduce migration.
The union minister assured the governor of full central support for development and agricultural growth of Arunachal Pradesh.
As part of the unique practice observed by visiting dignitaries, Chouhan planted a Bokul sapling in the premises of Lok Bhavan.

Meanwhile, the governor congratulated General Dhiraj Seth on assuming charge as the 31st Chief of the Army Staff of the Indian Army on 30 June and extended his best wishes to Gen Seth for a successful tenure.
The governor expressed confidence that the Indian Army will continue to uphold its glorious traditions of professionalism, valour, and unwavering commitment to the nation under General Seth’s able leadership.
“The Indian Army will continue to strengthen its capabilities to meet future challenges with determination and excellence in the rapidly evolving security environment and the emergence of new dimensions of warfare, which demand innovation, adaptability, and strategic foresight,” he said.
The governor hoped the Indian Army will further enhance its operational preparedness, safeguard the country’s territorial integrity, and effectively secure every inch of the nation’s borders under Gen Seth’s stewardship.
Gen. Dhiraj Seth hails from a distinguished military family with a proud legacy of service to the nation. He is the son of Lieutenant General (retd) Krishna Mohan Seth, former adjutant general of the Indian Army, who retired in 1997 after an illustrious career that included commanding the XXI Strike Corps and the III Corps.
