ITANAGAR, 15 Jun: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Karsingsa in Papum Pare district distributed fingerlings of different species to farmers at its premises on 15 June.
The KVK said 40,000 fingerlings of amrit catla, amur carp, grass carp, jayanti rohu and mrigal were distributed to 12 farmers of Leporiang, Balapu, Karsingsa, Laptap, Chillo, Geram and Inderjuli villages in Papum Pare district.
The KVK said the growth of amrit catla, a genetically improved variety of labeo catla, is higher as compared to old catla.
“Amrit catla can reach an average weight of 1.8 kg in the polyculture system in one year, compared to 1.2 kg for local strains,” it said.
The fish species has been introduced to boost fish production in the state and make the farmers aware of the new species, the KVK said.
