KARSINGSA, 10 Jul: More than 24 farmers from Naharlagun, Doimukh, Leporiang, Kheel, Kanebung, Inderjuli, Laptap, Balapu, Karsingsa, Bogoli, Chimpu, Toru, Balijan and Sagalee participated in a programme organised by the Papum Pare Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) here to mark the National Fish Farmers’ Day on 10 July.
KVK Head Dr Bangkeng Perme encourages the fish farmers to adopt improved variety of fishes for better production and maximum economic gain, and apprised them of the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampata Yojana.
Perme also motivated the farmers to use the Kisan Sarathi app, so that they can directly contact experts related to agricultural issues.
On this occasion, the KVK conducted a training programme on ‘composite fish culture’, and distributed 12 quintals of lime to the 24 fish farmers.
Fishery expert Dr Vivekanand Safi highlighted the importance of improved variety of fishes like Amrit catla, Jayanti rohu and Amur carp, “which,” he said, “play a vital role in overall fish production of the state.”
Safi interacted with the farmers on application of lime to check the pH level of fish ponds, the mode of releasing fingerling into the pond, and standard stocking density of fingerling in the pond. He advised the farmers to stock good quality fish seed in their fish ponds for better production.
