LOKPENG, 22 Aug: The Lokpeng Solung Gii:di was celebrated with great enthusiasm and traditional fervour in Lokpeng village in Siang district, bringing together community members, cultural leaders, elected representatives and senior government officials to celebrate and showcase the rich cultural heritage of the Adi community.
The celebration, which commenced on 17 August, witnessed the participation of several prominent dignitaries, making it a significant cultural gathering in the region.
The event saw the presence of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Ojing Tasing, Panchayati Raj Director Tajing Jonnom, Pangin ADC Gamtum Padu, Pangin ZPM Odiyang Muang Tamuk, among others.
Associate Professor Dr Tatum Mibang spoke on the significance of preserving the community's rich cultural traditions and heritage.
The celebration provided a platform for the community to showcase its traditional customs, rituals, dances and chants.
One of the major cultural highlights was the participation of Tajer Tamut of Jomo village, who served as the Solung Ponung Miri and led the traditional ponung performances, adding cultural richness and grandeur to the festivities.
The presence of senior dignitaries, elected representatives and community leaders further underscored the importance of preserving indigenous traditions and passing the rich cultural legacy of the Adi community on to younger generations.
The festival was organised under the leadership of the Lokpeng Solung Gii:di Celebration Committee, with Talem Saroh serving as its president, Tarok Saroh as chief adviser, and Tamur Pajing as general secretary.
The organising committee expressed gratitude to all dignitaries, families, guests, community members and well-wishers for their active participation and support in making the Lokpeng Solung Gii:di celebration a memorable and successful event.
The celebration not only provided an opportunity for the community to come together in a spirit of unity and cultural pride, but also reaffirmed the collective commitment to safeguarding, promoting and transmitting the age-old cultural traditions to future generations.
