LIKABALI, 30 Aug: The Adi community residing here in Lower Siang district celebrated Solung festival with great enthusiasm and traditional fervour on Saturday.
Senior public leader Gumke Riba hoisted the festival flag at the MM Resort complex. Extending greetings to the Adi community, he expressed hope that the festival would usher in peace, harmony and brotherhood among the people, besides bringing a bumper harvest and prosperity.
The festival organisers, Gagam Pertin and Sobo Tayeng, expressed happiness over the massive participation of the Adi community members, dune-makbo and other guests at the festival ground.
A key highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the Solung mythology by Augusti Jamoh, which forms the cultural and traditional foundation of the festival.
The programme also featured vibrant performances of the traditional ponung dance, taku tabat and other cultural presentations.
Earlier, Tarik Nyitan spoke at length about the significance and purpose of celebrating Solung, highlighting its importance in preserving the community's heritage. (DIPRO)
