77th Van Mahotsav Week concludes

DEOMALI, 7 Jul: Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Wangki Lowang on Tuesday urged the people, particularly the younger generation, to play an active role in afforestation and forest conservation initiatives for a sustainable future.

The minister was addressing the valedictory function of the weeklong 77th Van Mahotsav Week, organised by the Deomali forest division here in Tirap district.

Conserving forests is a shared responsibility, the minister said, and stressed that sustained community participation is essential to preserve the state’s rich natural heritage for future generations.

Commending the Forest Department for successfully organising a series of plantation drives and awareness programmes throughout the week, Lowang also lauded the efforts of the Deomali forest division in planting thousands of saplings in and around Deomali.

MLA Wanglin Lowangdong highlighted the activities undertaken during the weeklong celebration. He underscored the importance of environmental conservation and appealed to citizens, especially students and youths, to plant and nurture trees while adopting environmentally responsible practices in their daily lives.

The weeklong programme featured plantation drivesand environmental awareness campaigns aimed at promoting ecological conservation and encouraging people to contribute towards a greener and healthier environment.

Deputy Commissioner Badonlum Tawsik, Deomali ADC Indira T Riba, Nocte Women Associationchairperson Chasuam Wangchadong, heads of departments, zilla parishad members, students, public leaders from Deomali and Khonsa, and officials and staff of the Forest Department were present during the programme.
