PASIGHAT, 11 Sep: The East Siang district unit of the All Arunachal Pradesh PM Poshan Workers' Union (AAPPMPWU) engaged in different government primary schools in the district under the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman reiterated its demand to the state and the central government authorities for early release of their pending dues and an increase in remuneration.

Around 100 members of the union, who gathered at the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh office here on Friday to celebrate its third foundation day, stated that more than 219 Poshan workers in the district are facing financial constraints as their remuneration has not been paid for the last two years. They said that, despite submitting repeated memorandums to the state's education minister, seeking his intervention for early release of their unpaid dues, there has been no response.

The union's functionaries also demanded a hike in remuneration, stating that the Poshan workers are paid meagre amounts of Rs 1,000 to Rs 1,500 per month.

"We are entrusted with the responsibility of taking care of and feeding nutritious food to others' children, but the government authorities do not take care of us, which is an utter injustice and negligence," AAPPMPWU district unit president Oken Tatak lamented.

On its foundation day, the union further demanded that PM Poshan workers be imparted skill training on nutritional issues, and that quality food items be supplied to the schools.

The Poshan workers also took out a march, shouting slogans about their needs and demands.
