ITANAGAR, 5 Jun: Governor KT Parnaik said that postage stamps are enduring symbols of history, culture, and national pride that connect generations and educate people across geographical boundaries.

The governor said this when Postmaster General of the Northeast Circle, Brajesh Kumar, met him in Shillong, Meghalaya on 4 June to discuss issuing a series of commemorative postage stamps showcasing the rich heritage, vibrant culture, and unique identity of Arunachal Pradesh.

A keen philatelist and stamp collector himself, Parnaik said that commemorative stamps dedicated to Arunachal would help document the state’s unique story and secure its place in India’s postal heritage.

“Such stamps would serve as cultural ambassadors, introducing the state’s traditions, achievements, biodiversity, and indigenous wisdom to audiences across the country and around the world,” the governor said.

Appreciating the initiative, the governor expressed hope that it would enhance awareness about Arunachal’s distinctive identity while inspiring greater appreciation for its heritage among future generations.

Earlier, the chief postmaster general briefed the governor on the approval process and the proposed themes for the stamp series, which include the indigenous tribes and traditions of Arunachal, heritage sites, rich flora and fauna, GI-tagged indigenous products, and traditional handicrafts.

As a gesture of goodwill, the chief postmaster general presented the governor with a postage stamp album and a book, Journey of India through Philately.

Director of Postal Services KVLN Murty and Assistant Directors Chintamary Kharmawlong and Poreiton Thokchom also attended the meeting. (Lok Bhavan)
