DAPORIJO, 16 Jun: Retired chief engineer Dube Dulom passed away on Tuesday afternoon at a hospital in Itanagar.
He was 62, and is survived by his wife, three sons and a daughter.
Dulom, who retired as the PWD North West Zone chief engineer in 2024, was awarded the State Silver Medal in 2002 and the State Gold Medal in 2014 in recognition of his sincerity, professionalism, and commitment to public service.
He was popularly known as ‘Dagda Bill Engineer’, a title that reflected his unwavering honesty, integrity, and transparent dealings with the public.
Throughout his distinguished career, he earned immense respect and admiration for his straightforwardness, fair administration, and commitment to accountability.
Dulom received his early education at the Nari Kalyan Kendra in Daporijo in Upper Subansiri district, and later studied at the Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) in Daporijo. He graduated with a bachelor of engineering degree from Tripura Engineering College, Agartala. He joined the PWD as an assistant engineer in 1987.
During his illustrious career, he served in various capacities, including as EE in Daporijo and Sagalee. He was later promoted as chief engineer (vigilance & training), and finally as chief engineer, North West Zone, Tawang.
Dulom served as the chief adviser to the RWS, DWS and All Villages of Daporijo Township Area Welfare Association. He played an instrumental role in the construction of the main entrance gate of the GHSSin Daporijo, and in the renovation of classrooms, teachers’ rooms and boys’ and girls’ washrooms as a gesture of gratitude towards his alma mater.
A dedicated promoter of indigenous faith and culture, Dulom also served as secretary of Si-Donyi Hilo (erstwhile Si-Donyi festival), and played a significant role in preserving, promoting and protecting the indigenous faith and rich cultural heritage of the Tagin community.
The Tagin Cultural Society, Tagin Welfare Society (TWS), Reri Welfare Society (RWS), Tagin Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society-ICR, and the Alumni Association of Government Higher Secondary School, Daporijo have conveyed their condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength and courage for the family to overcome the irreparable loss.
Describing him as a distinguished personality, an able administrator, and an engineer known for his honesty, transparency and accountability, TWS president Tana Yekar said his demise is a great loss to the Tagin community and the engineering fraternity.
Yekar expressed hope that his remarkable contributions and ideals would continue to inspire generations to come.
“His death is an immense loss not only to the alumni fraternity but also to the teachers, parents and staff of the school,” the Alumni Association of GHSS, Daporijo said in a condolence message.
The mortal remains of Dulom will be brought to his native place, Daporijo, on 17 June, and the last rites will be performed on 18 June.
