DAPORIJO, 14 Jun: The Upper Subansiri District Legal Services Authority organised an awareness programme to mark the World Elder Abuse Awareness Day 2026 at Bui village on Saturday, highlighting the rights, welfare and legal protections for elderly persons, and the need to respect them.
The programme was organised under the global theme ‘Lifting up voices: Access to justice for older persons’, with the message ‘Protect our elders, preserve our heritage’.
Speakers, including Chief Judicial Magistrate N Laji and deputy chief legal aid defence counsel Mijan Bui, urged community members to respect, support, and safeguard the wellbeing of elderly persons.
The programme also highlighted the role of senior citizens in preserving cultural heritage and traditional values.
The awareness session covered key legal topics, including the Arunachal Pradesh Victim Compensation Scheme 2024, marriage registration for women, lok adalat, and the functions and rules of legal aid clinics.
Gusar Circle Officer Nikrun Bui, ZPM Yalar Riddi, GBs, GPMs, paralegal volunteers, and village youths attended the programme.
