BOMDILA, 15 Jul: The Zonal General Hospital (ZGH) here in West Kameng district successfully conducted its first-ever ENT surgeries.

The surgeries-tympanoplasty and pediatric tonsillectomy-were  performed by a team led by senior anaesthesiologist Dr. Ani Siram and ENT surgeon Dr. Hano Ramesh, with support from nursing officers Rushmi,  Kanchan, and other OT staff.

The team ensured safe and effective surgical and anaesthesia care despite the challenges associated with high-altitude conditions and limited resources.

With this achievement, the Operation Theatre at ZGH Bomdila is now fully functional round-the-clock and equipped to undertake a wide range of routine and emergency surgical procedures across multiple specialties, including obstetrics & gynaecology, general surgery, orthopaedics, ENT, and oncology.

The successful introduction of ENT surgical services is expected to greatly benefit residents of West Kameng and neighbouring areas by reducing dependence on referrals to distant hospitals and ensuring timely access to specialised healthcare closer to home.

Hospital authorities, however, highlighted the urgent need for the appointment of an additional anaesthetist.

At present, the hospital’s 24×7 OT services are being managed by a single anaesthetist, posing considerable challenges in maintaining uninterrupted emergency and surgical care. Strengthening manpower, particularly in anaesthesia services, will further enhance the hospital’s capacity to serve the region effectively. (DIPRO)
