TAWANG, 6 Jul: The Tawang police arrested the absconding manager of Sela Distributor, Tawang, Lakhya Jyoti Boruah, from Lakhimpur, Assam, on Saturday for allegedly misappropriating Rs 90 lakh.
The arrest was made under the supervision of Tawang Superintendent of Police (SP) Tasi Darang. The police team was led by Tawang PS OC Lady Inspector Niyu Angu, and included Constables
DW Thungon and Rinchin Tsering, in coordination with the Lakhimpur police.
According to police sources, on 25 May, a written FIR was lodged by Garib Nath Raut, manager of Sela Distributor, which is engaged in wholesale distribution of IMFL and beer. The complaint was filed against Lakhya Jyoti Boruah, a resident of Soniya Gaon village in North Lakhimpur district of Assam.
Boruah was employed as the manager of Sela Distributor, and was entrusted with sales, marketing, procurement, stock handling, maintenance of accounts, and the overall management of the company’s business activities.
On 1 May, when the complainant and the company’s accountant, Bhagawati Prasad, visited Tawang to audit the accounts, verify stock records, and physically inspect the godown and books of accounts, they allegedly discovered that Boruah had misappropriated approximately Rs 90 lakh.
Police said the accused had been absconding since 25 March.
The Tawang police registered a case under Sections 316 (2), 318 (3) and 316 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the investigation was entrusted to Inspector Angu.
Meanwhile, the Tawang SP contacted Lakhimpur SSP Gunendra Deka and sought the assistance of the Lakhimpur police in tracing and apprehending the accused, leading to his successful arrest.
In another case, on 12 May, an FIR was lodged by Sonam Tsering of Kharteng village against Madhab Das (31), a resident of Manujuli Gaon in Sonitpur district of Assam.
The complainant alleged that the accused had promised to supply furniture after receiving an advance payment of Rs 2,20,000. However, after receiving the money, he allegedly failed to deliver the furniture.
Accordingly, the Tawang police registered a case under Sections 318 (4) and 318 (2) of the BNS against the accused.
A bailable warrant of arrest was subsequently issued by the chief judicial magistrate’s court in Tawang. SP Darang then contacted the additional SP of Sonitpur district for assistance. On 3 July, a police team comprising SI Lham Thinley and Constables Taya Tutum and Tenzin Namgey proceeded to Sonitpur district. With the assistance of the Assam Police, the team successfully executed the bailable warrant. Necessary legal formalities, including recording of statements, were completed, bringing the pending investigation in the case to its conclusion.
SP Darang expressed gratitude to the Assam Police for their cooperation, stating that the successful operations reflected the cordial working relationship and strong coordination between the Arunachal Pradesh Police and the Assam Police.
