ITANAGAR, 15 May: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed conducting Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in 16 states and three union territories, with Arunachal Pradesh included under Phase-III of the nationwide exercise.
According to the state’s chief electoral officer (CEO), the schedule for the revision has been aligned with the ongoing census houselisting exercise to ensure effective utilisation of the common field machinery.
The ECI informed that, with the implementation of Phase-III, the SIR process will cover almost the entire country except Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. The schedule for these remaining state/UTs will be announced later, after considering completion of census activities and prevailing weather conditions in snow-bound and upper-reach areas.
As part of the exercise, booth level officers (BLOs) will conduct house-to-house visits across the state to verify and update electoral details. Political parties have also been requested to appoint booth level agents (BLAs) at every polling station to ensure transparency and active participation in the revision process.
During Phase-III across the country, over 3.94 lakh BLOs and 3.42 lakh BLAs will be engaged in the enumeration exercise, covering nearly 36.73 crore electors.
In Arunachal, a total of 2,288 BLOs and 3,131 BLAs will be involved in the exercise for verification of 8,87,607 electors as on 12 May, 2026.
The timeline for the SIR in Arunachal begins with preparation, training and printing activities from 5-14 June, followed by house-to-house visits by BLOs from 15 June to 14 July. The draft electoral roll will be published on 21 July, while the final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on 22 September.
The CEO appealed to all eligible voters, political parties, and stakeholders to extend full cooperation for successful completion of the SIR process.
